Many women are beloved wives, mothers,
sisters, friends and neighbors. Some women are also accomplished leaders in
education, business or their communities. A few women rise to the level of
countryman, statesman and a courageous example to others. Donna Fitz is all of
the above and more.
Since 1999 as a member of the CERA Board of Directors, Donna Fitz, in
partnership with her husband, Clarence, gave tirelessly of her time, labor and
funds to preserve and protect the constitutional rights of residents around the
Mille Lacs Lake area, as well as throughout Minnesota and the Country. Her light
spirit and warm heart were keenly balanced with strength of resolve to overcome
policies constraining property, civil and constitutional rights and eroding the
economy and quality of life surrounding her beloved Mille Lacs Lake.
Donna and Clare annually marched the halls of Congress to carry a citizen's
message to elected officials. Even doing so in her later years while confined to
a wheel chair. Ravages upon her health broke our hearts, but never broke her
spirit. Donna left a brightly lighted example of citizenship to protect our
individual rights under the Constitution - a example, we who mourn her, will
follow with her memory held close to our heart. Rest in peace, beloved Patriot
and dear, dear friend.
