  Dear Ms. Willman:

Thank you for your letter expressing your concerns over the new legislation that has been introduced regarding tribal jurisdiction. My office has been following this issue and we certainly share some of your concerns.

I believe the most appropriate and effective way for my office to address the shortcomings of the proposed legislation with the appropriate federal authorities is to work collectively with other state Attorney Generals to collectively express our comments and concerns to the appropriate officials.

Thank you again for sharing your views with me.

            Sincerely yours,

  Dear Ms. Willman:

After reviewing your packet on Senate Bill 578, the Governor asked me to share his thoughts. Thank you for your mailing, as it is extremely informative, and sheds light on several disconcerting aspects of this pending legislation. Your concerns are not taken lightly. Furthermore, the State of Wyoming is in the careful process of hiring a Tribal Liaison to facilitate communications and cooperation with tribes in Wyoming. Although this does not solve affairs of Federal jurisdiction, we hope that improved relations will help to avoid future contention between our two nations. Again, thank you for your efforts to keep America informed.

            Best Regards,
